Dance of the Northern Sea
Written and Arranged by Alan Ginocchio
In the early 1990’s I was still a huge fan of “WordPerfect”, a word processing software touting a good measure of popularity. However, Microsoft’s “Word” was slowly squeezing “WordPerfect” out of the work place. And I was not happy about that at all. Although I still maintain the latest version of “WordPerfect” and still consider it superior to “Word” and much easier to use, I have converted 100% over to “Word” out of necessity.
Having said that to say this….I from time to time took on a student who was interested in learning “WordPerfect” during the early 90’s and one of my students was of Irish ethnicity and talked a lot about Ireland and even visited Ireland on vacation during their time as my student. Thru that relationship I was inspired to write a couple of songs which had a bit of the Irish flavor. This song, “Dance of the Northern Sea”, was perhaps the better of my two endeavors.
Thar’s A Skunk In the Outhouse
Written and Arranged by Alan Ginocchio
In 2002 a humorous discussion was taking place at work one Friday with regard to outhouses. One of my co-workers was talking about the critters their grandpa had encountered in an old outhouse they use to have on a farm to include skunks. For some forgettable reason the phrase “skunk in the outhouse” seemed to be of an oxymoronic nature.
Saturday morning I got up and went into my little home studio and began writing a song which was to become my one and only bluegrass composition. Appropriately enough, I ended up giving it the title, Thar’s A Skunk In The Outhouse, worthy of its origins which stemmed from that Friday’s discussion. I was never sure if the song actually related to their being a skunk in the outhouse, or that the outhouse smelled as though a skunk resided therein.
